Sujoy Mitra Becomes the Only Traveller Globally to Hold 11 Active Guinness World Records

Sujoy Mitra

With 11 active Guinness World Records in travel and 14 total, Indian extreme traveller Sujoy Kumar Mitra has become one of the world’s most prolific record-holders. He is one of a select few world explorers who are pushing the boundaries of human endurance and mobility.

Mitra has travelled to all 198 countries, including the 193 UN members countries as well as Vatican City, Taiwan, Kosovo, Palestine, and Antarctica. Few people worldwide have accomplished this feat.

According to Guinness World Records, Mitra is the only known traveller worldwide to hold 11 Guinness World Records specifically related to travel accomplishments, setting him apart from record-holders in other categories.

Among a total of 14 Guinness World Records that Mitra has achieved in his lifetime, 11 are currently active Guinness World Records, some of the most notable being:

  • Fastest time to visit the New 7 Wonders of the World
  • Fastest to visit all 7 Continents
  • Most UNESCO World Heritage Sites visited in 12 hours
  • Most Michelin-starred restaurants visited in 24 hours
  • Most continents visited within a single calendar day
  • Most embassies visited in 24 hours

Extreme exploration for twenty years

Mitra has been an avid traveller for more than 20 years, covering far-flung regions, crowded cities, and culturally important sites all over the world. His record attempts blend geographic coverage, endurance travel, and meticulous logistics at a never-before-seen pace.

“The journey is greater than the destination. Today when I look back, I have better memories and stories to tell about the challenges I enjoyed during the journey than the places visited. I do believe – ‘All records are made to be broken’. We break a record first in our mind where the passion firmly believes it’s possible to do so and then the easy part is the day we break the record on the field” says Sujoy Kumar Mitra.

Putting India on the map of global exploration

Mitra’s accomplishments establish India as a major player in the world’s community of record-breaking explorers and extreme travellers, an area that has historically been dominated by Western explorers.

“I hope these trips demonstrate that Indian tourists can set the standard for endurance and exploration travel around the world. The most significant accomplishment will be if my recordings encourage even a small number of people to travel beyond their comfort zones and gain a deeper understanding of the world”— Mitra added.
