Taj Cidade de Goa Creates Dedicated Crew Welfare Spaces

Taj Cidade de Goa has introduced a dedicated “Crew Area” for event support staff during large-scale celebrations and conferences, marking a step towards more inclusive and responsible hospitality practices.

During peak event periods, hotels witness a significant increase in the movement of technicians, decorators, riggers, loaders, drivers, and coordinators who work behind the scenes to ensure seamless guest experiences. Traditionally, many of these teams have had limited access to basic facilities such as dining, rest, and hygiene spaces. The new initiative at Taj Cidade de Goa aims to address this gap.

The designated crew area offers a well-lit and organised environment where event staff can take meals, rest between shifts, and stay hydrated. It also provides access to clean drinking water and regularly maintained washroom facilities, ensuring that essential needs are met in a practical and respectful manner during long and demanding work hours.

Commenting on the initiative, Ranjit Phillipose, Senior Vice President – Operations, IHCL Goa, said,Hospitality is reflected in how people are treated at every level. The teams working behind the scenes are integral to the success of each event, and it was important to ensure they have access to appropriate facilities that support their work and well-being.”

Industry partners have welcomed the move. Jerry Pinto, CEO of Buzz Events, noted that access to cleaner dining areas, potable water, and hygienic washrooms allows vendor staff and labour teams to operate in more comfortable and organised conditions during events.

The initiative underlines a broader approach to hospitality that goes beyond guest-facing services to include the welfare of operational teams. By creating structured facilities for event management personnel, Taj Cidade de Goa highlights the importance of inclusion, safety, and basic comfort within the hospitality ecosystem.

As hotels and venues increasingly host large and complex events, such measures reflect a growing recognition of the workforce that enables these experiences, pointing towards more people-centric practices across the industry.
